Federation of Genealogical Societies

Welcome to Solano County Genealogical Society!

Solano County Genealogical Society LibraryThe Solano County Genealogical Society welcomes everyone who has an interest in genealogy. We are proud to offer this website as a gateway to our services, resources, programs, activities and information on our society.
We welcome all Members, Guests and Visitors to our new more modern and up-to-date website. We switched our systems on December 28, 2022.
To provide an improved experience we have moved from our old too-slow and somewhat outdated previous site. The process of recreating and restructuring our new more modern streamlined website takes time with the help of our handful of dedicated volunteers. Obviously some pages are still under construction. Please visit us often to see the changes we will continue to make to improve your experience.
We invite you to join us. Membership is not required, but recommended, as we offer Members Only records and material on this website.
To become a new member, click on New Member - Join Here in the left side menu bar. To renew your membership, click on Members Only on the left side menu bar and log on to Your Profile.
Due to current circumstances, all society meetings are being held virtually on Zoom until further notice.
Our future Events are shown by date in the column on the right side of this page. To learn more details about a particular item, click on View Full Listing.
Reminders and Invitation emails will be sent to all active members to provide access to our meetings via Zoom. Guest visitors may also attend with an advance request sent to scgs@scgsca.org by 4:00 pm the day before.
Our society has an informative Speaker Series event on the first Saturday of the month at 11:00 AM Pacific Time.
(No Speaker Series meetings in January, July, August)
Our monthly educational Discussion Groups meet on the third Wednesday of each month at 10:00 AM Pacific Time.
(Discussion Group Meetings are held every month)
Our Library has a wonderful collection of research materials for genealogists. There is a fantastic helpful volunteer staff available to help you. Library hours are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM to 1 PM and on 3rd Saturdays by appointment only. Please see visit our Library Page for more details. The library is located on the 2nd floor of the Old Town Hall building pictured above. It was constructed in 1907 at 610 East Main Street in historical downtown Vacaville California.
We have several ongoing SIGs (special interest groups) that are held on Zoom.  The current  active SIGs are Irish, German, and Brick Walls. In addition, help for Italian research can be arranged. These small groups share resources and strategies for their topical research.  Any current member can join a SIG by sending an email to scgs@scgsca.org requesting to be put on the group list to receive a monthly Zoom invitation.
Our Rootdigger newsletter is published bimonthly with issues emailed to our membership in January, March, May, July, September and November. Back issues are available to our members in the Members Only section of this website.

How to Add and Search Surnames
Our Surname Research list is made available to all visitors to this website.
It can be a helpful tool to aid you in your research.
Our Society Members can add Surnames of ancestors they are following, in order to seek help from others.
Here’s how:
Step 1: Login to Members Only section.
Step 2: Click on Your Profile.
Step 3: Go to the Surnames tab.
Step 4: Click on the pencil icon Edit .
Step 5: Enter your information and remember to Save.
When a Visitor to the Surname Research list finds a match to a name they are interested in, they can click on the eye View Details  to get more information or click the envelope Email Inquiry  to open the Surname Inquiry Emailer. The sender must enter their name, email address information and a short message related to their inquiry. When the inquirer clicks Send, the email is sent directly to the member related to the selected surname. The sender will not have the member’s name or email information unless the member later chooses to reveal it with future correspondence.

Our Facebook Page has lots of fun & interesting content.

For those of you who have listed Solano County Genealogical Society  as a recipient for AmazonSmile donations, we do thank you!  We didn't get rich, but every little bit helps. The AmazonSmile program is ending as of February 20, 2023.  So, if you have things you were planning on buying anyway, you can still put a few dollars more into our treasury before then. We appreciate the support over the years.
